Depart Kigali very early in the morning in a 4×4 safari vehicle from WanderLux Safaris and head off to Northwestern Rwanda to explore Volcanoes National Park gorillas. Arrive at Kinigi for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. Get a family to track and a park guide to accompany you on a long day’s search for a habituated gorilla group.

The actual gorilla tracking will start at 8:30 am and you will be led by an experienced park guide. Depending on the location of the gorillas and your speed of walking, today, you will take 2-6 hours with a guarantee of 1 hour to explore how gorillas behave and photograph. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the jungles and you will return, and meet WanderLux Safaris driver ready to depart for Kigali arriving in the evening.

Gorilla families to track in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda

12 fully habituated gorilla groups are all open for tracking while in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda. They include Umubano, Titus, Bwenge, Hirwa, Karisimbi, Pablo, Agashya, Kwitonda, Amahoro, Uganda, and Susa A.

Packing list: waterproof hiking boots, gardening gloves, a pair of socks, long-sleeved shirts, a sweater, safari hat, sunglasses, trousers, insect repellent, medical/first aid kit, a rain jacket, daypack, and more.

When to visit the park to track gorillas

The dry season is undoubtedly the most ideal time to visit and trek mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. The long drier months begin from June till September and short dry months run from December to February.

How to reach the park from Kigali?

Departing from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park takes just 2-3 hours’ drive. The park is lying Northwest of Rwanda and getting will be done using one WanderLux Safaris rental fleets.
