This Nyungwe Forest National Park tour offers the best of guided chimpanzee tracking experience and canopy walk.

Nyungwe Forest National Park Rwanda is one of Africa’s most biodiverse primate parks, home to about 500 chimpanzees, 400 colobus monkeys, several red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, silver monkeys, and others. Besides primates, Nyungwe Forest holds a total of 310 species of birds, including Albertine rift endemic species.

Detailed Itinerary

At leisure, enjoy a delicious breakfast and you will be picked up ready to take on a short city tour in Kigali. This includes touring the Kigali genocide site where you will get enlightened about the 1994 Rwanda genocide and next visit the craft centers or Kimironko market. After this special 2-hour city tour, proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the Southern province about 6 hour’s drive.

En route, you will make a stopover at Butare/Huye and this includes visiting historical/cultural sites like the king’s palace, the ethnographic museum, and Murambi memorial sites. Arrive at the park and be transferred to the lodge for relaxation and a night stay.

Accommodation

A delicious cup of tea/coffee early in the morning and you will be picked up, and transferred to Uwinka reception for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking guidelines. Meet the Nyungwe Forest National Park official who will be conducting the briefing and allocate you the park guide. At 8:00 am, you will be led by the park guide through the forest to see chimpanzees and as you navigate through the forest, you will also come across other primates and birds.

The entire adventure takes 2-4 hours and includes one hour of staying in the presence of a habituated chimpanzee community. Walk back to have lunch and relaxation at the lodge till afternoon when you will set off for a guided canopy walk. The canopy walk takes 2 hours and you will be walking on a suspended walkway of 60m from the ground while viewing primates, birds and the scenic canopy of Nyungwe Forest.

Accommodation

After breakfast, you will be picked up in the morning and return to Kigali capital city, 6 hour’s drive. You will be dropped off at the airport for departure or to relax at the hotel and today marks the end of 3 day Nyungwe Forest tour.
